Measuring 16" wide by just under 8 3/4" deep, this storage unit can hold every common bit from 1/2" down to 1/16". There's also capacity for extra long bits, up to 12" and space for other unique bits.
 
Print the layers with your laser or CNC, then align and glue each of them together. This can be made as deep as needed, though all layers stacked on 1/8" ply will get you a rack about 5/8" to 3/4" thick, fitting most slim tool cabinet drawers.
